I found this short “prayer” in Malaysiakini recently written by someone called “Yumcious”.

Despite all the wrongs that we can see with Malaysia today, the positives out of this is a stronger awareness and a rising sense of personal responsibility amongst Malaysians to be involved in civil society and government.

This prayer reminds us that whilst we must realize that there are serious problems (evil) in this country, it really only takes one man & God to make a change.

Be that change.

Dear God,

My country is sick.
Yes it is.
It is sick to the core of its being.

I despair when our politicians help themselves to the nation’s wealth,
and then rub our noses in with their contempt for us.

I despair when our government keeps politicking when the perilous
economy blights the world.

I despair when our legal institutions are infested with inferior men and women who have lost all self-respect.

I despair when legal systems are subverted by the letter of the law, instead of the spirit of the law.

I despair when the futures of our young are toyed with.

I despair when we don’t even feel safe anymore – even in our own homes.

I despair when politicians stoke racial flames to be champions of their own parties.

I despair because I don’t know if there is anything I can do about it.

What can I do? I am only one person.
Mahatma Gandhi was one man. So was Martin Luther King. And so was Nelson Mandela.

Maybe one man is all it will take to spark it.
Please God, raise a man from among us.

I am willing and ready. Use me.
