At 10.10pm last night, I opened my gmail and read this email from Ian:
Dear friends,
We have sad news.
Our pangyau Peng is dead. She went to CG as usual on Friday, and someone dropped her off at home as usual. But then she missed all her appointments on Saturday, and didn’t show up for work on Monday. Her parents are worried, since it is not at all like her to not show up for work and not call.
Uncle Arthur just told me her parents just broke into her apartment and found her dead, blood everywhere. Police are investigating now. Someone must have attacked her as she was entering her apartment or something.
That’s all we know for now.
My jaw dropped, I was speechless. My wife was in shock and then began to feel very fearful.
I sent out a dozen sms to friends of Peng and people who had served with her in church.
This morning the Star reports:
Decomposed body of woman found
AMPANG: The decomposed body of a 37-year-old woman was found in a locked bedroom of a third floor shoplot at Pandan Jaya here last night.
The woman, who has yet to be identified, was found at about 9pm in the bedroom of the apartment she shared with three other women.
Her housemates, who had not seen her for a few days, called the police when a strong stench began coming out from her locked bedroom.
According to sources, police found the woman, who died at least 72 hours ago, with her hands tied behind her back and her feet bound.
However, the cause of death is still unknown as the body bore no visible wounds.
It is believed that rape and robbery have been ruled out as possible motives for the murder.
I dont know who to believe - but i really hope that the news report is true - and that she was not stabbed to death as implied by “blood everywhere” in Ian’s email. I spoke to Uncle Arthur this morning, and was told that her body now is undergoing autopsy to determine the cause of death.
I have no further information as of now. Please pray for her parents and family - as they really need comfort and hope that Peng is in God’s hands now despite the manner of her death, though untimely.

I know Peng (Lovena) as a friend as well as the makeup artist for many years in the Punctuation Ministries. She is a dedicated and committed woman when it comes to ministry. Despite living on the ‘wrong’ side of town, she would still make the journey by train and sometimes by taxi to go to church on time for rehearsals.
I have seen where she lived as I have driven her home numerous times during practices and production nights over the years. I have mentioned a few times that the place looks rather unsafe for a single woman and that it would be better to live somewhere in PJ.
Unfortunately, thats the place she bought years ago and she could not rent it out nor afford to move to another place. The LRT nearby helps her to get to work in KL and so thats the choice she made.
She will be greatly missed by everyone in DUMC and by her friends.
Join the Pengyaus Group to share your thoughts/prayers and photos taken with her with her other friends - so that we can create an online memorial for her.

Some things in the Star’s report are almost certainly wrong: she did NOT have any housemates at the time of death, as far as Juliane knows — and she’s been in regular contact with Juliane. I think she was looking for someone to rent her spare room. The place was too small to have 3 other women living with her.
