On the eve of 10th November, our government gripped by fear that this peaceful rally to His Majesty Agung (King) for Electoral Reforms will spark a change to this country that ultimately cause them to lose the coming election, the PM and the BN machinery has vowed to show their force to break down this peace rally.
Reminiscent of the way the fascist government in V for Vendetta, 4,000 police will be deployed to stop anyone from entering the Dataran Merdeka and its surrounding areas. The PM told the police to break up the protest and arrest participants.
“The police have said no, yet they still want to proceed. In that case, surely something bad is going to happen,” said Abdullah during his presidential winding-up speech at the end of the Umno general assembly today.
This sort of veiled threat is exactly what we would expect from an authoritarian government, which will resort to threat of violence and arrest to stop any peaceful rally as if it there will be an armed conflict.This kind of reaction is what we would expect from a government gripped by insecurities. Is this government insecure? Why, would it be? Isn’t this a peaceful rally organized by non-governmental agencies? Have we elected one? Isn’t our country a democracy?
Borrowing Whatalulu’s words:
The Bersih march is a peaceful assembly to meet with the Agong, God’s appointed Supreme Head of this Federation. We go in peace, with a noble intention, to return the citizen’s right through fair and just elections. We are not going for the sake of overthrowing the present government, though they feel that way due to their own insecurities. Bersih has made, and is still making, every effort to secure a permit even though the initial request is rejected.
Abdullah said the rally organisers have shown that they were stubborn and defiant against the country’s laws. “They are challenging the patience of the rakyat who want this country to be peaceful and stable. That is what they are challenging, not me. Tapi saya mesti kata saya pantang dicabar (But I have to say that don’t you dare challenge me),” said Abdullah to roars of approval from the delegates.
I believe our PM knows very well that the country’s Supreme law - the Constitution in Article 10 Subject to Clauses (2), (3) and (4) -
(a) every citizen has the right to freedom of speech and expression;
(b) all citizens have the right to assemble peaceably and without arms;
(c) all citizens have the right to form associations.
But our government has created other laws to limit this fundamental right - and in a way made the Constitution subject to new laws. To some legal minds, this is a travesty of the highest order. For me this continued abuse of power truly tries the patience of the citizen of this nation more than anything else. Yes, we want peace and stability - but we thirst for true freedom and equality.
The 70 plus NGOs and the organiser Bersih has submitted their applications, gave their appeals and yet lame excuses were given not to assemble.
According to Mob1900, the BN government does not want us all to gather because THEY FEAR - that the power will return to the people.

Will you succumb to their fear tactics or will you be like David and stand up against the evil Goliath?
